Cellular Jail

Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a historic colonial prison located in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Built by the British in the late 19th century, it was used to exile political prisoners during India's struggle for independence. The jail is known for its distinctive cellular architecture, with individual cells radiating from a central watchtower. The harsh conditions and solitary confinement earned it the name "cellular." Today, Cellular Jail stands as a national memorial and museum, offering visitors a poignant insight into the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. The museum exhibits photographs and artifacts, narrating the grim history of the place. The Light and Sound Show held in the evenings at Cellular Jail vividly recounts the stories of the prisoners, adding a dramatic touch to the historical significance of this iconic structure.
